Help Anthony Beat the Odds

Three years ago, Anthony Lay was
diagnosed with an advanced form of Rheumatoid Arthritis, an auto immune disease
that attacks the body's joints. It is a
disabling and painful condition which leads to substantial loss of function and
mobility. Anthony's doctors have
prescribed physical therapy and anti-inflammatory
drugs, including steroids, to suppress the symptoms; however these treatments
don't stop the progression of joint destruction or eliminate the intense pain
of the disease. Earlier this year, he
was told by doctors that the disease had gone into remission, but the joy did
not last long. In the last couple of months, the effects of the disease have
returned. His mobility has become extremely limited, and he often is unable to
walk more than a few steps. Every day he endures severe joint pain in his legs
and back.
As if one horrible disease were not enough, a year later the excruciating pain and stress of coping with Rheumatoid Arthritis triggered a severe form of Schizophrenia. This mental condition produces auditory and visual hallucinations, as well as isolating paranoia. Psychiatric therapy and a combination of drugs keep most of the symptoms at bay much of the time, but every day is still a fight. Fighting frightening hallucinations. Fighting paranoia. Fighting loneliness. Fighting to maintain a daunting treatment regimen. Fighting to keep his energy and positivity. Every waking day is a fight for Anthony to be healthy. To survive. Even caring for Jackson, his beloved dog of 11 years is a struggle.
Because of his positive and private nature, this is the first time some of you have become aware of Anthony's struggle. He is completely unable to work, and disability benefits cover only a portion of his basic medical and living expenses. He is in dire need of financial help with the staggering cost of medical care that is needed to keep him out of the hospital.
It is time for us to extend a helping hand for our friend Anthony.
Many of us give generously to charities throughout the year and during the holidays. Sometimes we are able to put the face of a friend or loved one to our giving, and sometimes we just know that it is a good cause. Whatever your reason for giving, please help Anthony beat the odds against these debilitating diseases. Be assured that 100% of your donation will go to cover his basic needs of food, a place to live and medical expenses. Any donation will help immensely.
Your prayers and positive thoughts giving Anthony support to continue fighting every day are also needed and appreciated.
