Jack Needs Another Kidney Transplant
Donation protected
This is Jack Garcia. He is 15 years old. He is a 9th grader enrolled at Willowbrook high school in Villa Park, IL. He loves hockey, baseball, gaming and computer animation, and is a great role model for his younger brother, Quentin (8).
Jack was diagnosed with a stage 5 chronic kidney disorder called "Hydronephrosis" back in 2017. He was 9 years old. This disease caused his anemia, extremely high blood pressure, headaches, cramps, and near-complete kidney failure. Also known as "End Stage Renal Disease" (ESRD).
Jack first went into the hospital in early November 2017. Shortly thereafter, doctors discovered that both of his kidneys were functioning at less than 1%. His doctors believe it was due to a physical abnormality in his bladder/urethra that had gone unnoticed his entire childhood. During that time, Jack had undergone multiple invasive surgeries within a short period and had a dialysis catheter implanted in his upper chest. He was getting dialysis treatments 3 times/a week to filter his blood because his kidneys are unable to.
This was approximately 5 years ago. Since then, Jack received his first kidney donation in October of 2018 from his amazing mother, Lindsay after finding out they were a match. Unfortunately, the first transplant kidney from his mom started failing about a year ago. The failure happened gradually and required many medications to keep blood pressure down and anemia at bay. Doctors tried to reverse the new disease (called FSGS) without success.
In early January 2023, he was admitted to the hospital for high creatinine and BUN and needed immediate dialysis treatment. The surgery to install the port for dialysis was on January 13, 2023. Jack also started dialysis again that same day. He will go continuously until his blood is clean of all the toxins that his kidney can no longer filter. He will then get dialysis 3x a week for 3-4 hour sessions each time until a donor is found (living or angel donor).
Jack needs another kidney transplant.
As you can imagine, the onset of medical expenses has been very overwhelming. I am asking, on behalf of Jack Garcia and his family, for immediate financial help for him and his family. Lindsay (his mom) recently left her job to support Jack and her family full-time. This has taken an emotional and financial toll on their entire family, especially Jack. Jack deserves a childhood outside of hospital rooms. He should be enjoying his friends, family and Highschool.
If you are able, I am asking for your help for this wonderful family.
We encourage you to share this page far and wide on all social media outlets. Even if you cannot donate at this time, please share so it can reach someone else that may be able to contribute. The family will need any help they can get to ensure a smooth transition after surgery and through the recovery process of his second kidney transplant.
