#5KAY for Fans Supporting Foodbanks
Donation protected
We are raising money in memory of Dan Kay, the Liverpool ECHO journalist and Hillsborough campaigner who died in May 2023 aged 45.
This winter, we are supporting Fans Supporting Foodbanks following several incidents of poverty chanting during Everton, Liverpool and Tranmere Rovers matches.
Dan was a proud Scouser who wrote passionately against these senseless chants.
We are asking you to help us feed those in need in Dan's honour by walking, running, or travelling 5km - #5KAY - before January 31st 2024.
Post your best images to social media using the hashtag #5KAY and donate £5 per effort. All funds raised will be donated to Fans Supporting Foodbanks in Dan's name.
Dan worked at the ECHO from 2003-2021 across news and sport and was a universally popular member of the team. He was a driving force within the campaign for justice over Hillsborough both in his personal life and with the ECHO - where he was central to the coverage that stemmed from the disaster, most poignantly of the inquests that led to the ruling the 97 innocent men, women and children who lost their lives as a result of the tragedy were unlawfully killed.
Dan's friends and family recently organised the Annual Dan Kay Memorial Trophy to celebrate Dan, his life and his legacy while raising over £5,500.
The funds were split between An Hour for Others, Imagine If Trust and Mind. Dan was a committed volunteer and fundraiser for An Hour for Others and Imagine If Trust, which are both based in Liverpool.
