5km in 5 countries in 1 Day!

Hi, my name is Johnny and this is my story.

2023 was a tough year for our family as my dad went through a number of health battles which resulted in him being in hospital for around 3 months over 2 different periods. As a family we struggled and at times we feared the worst when his condition deteriorated. The staff in both Craigavon Area Hospital and The Royal were superb and we owe so much thanks and gratitude to them as they treated Dad, giving him the best possible chance of recovery.

It has taken over a year but thankfully Dad is doing really well and enjoying life as a Granda with his first grandson Zach. They are best friends and it’s a joy to see them spending quality time together. Pictured are my dad, Zach and I enjoying this years FA Cup Final.

I always told dad throughout his health battle that I would raise money for a charity of his choice. He decided that any money raised would be for the Southern Area Hospice as it was a charity that took care of my granda and his father in his final days as well as my mum working for the charity for 5 years. They are a charity who provides compassionate, dignified support to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses, ensuring comfort and quality of life during their final days.

So as a way of raising money I have set myself a challenge of running 5km in five different countries, in one day. I plan to run 5km in Dublin, before getting on the ferry to Holyhead where I will run 5km in Wales before travelling up to England to do another 5km. I will then travel on up north to Scotland to complete the 4th 5km before getting on the ferry from Cairnryan to Larne, and finish at the challenge at somewhere locally in Co Down.

I am very fortunate that 3 of my friends are going to complete the challenge with me, Matthew, Michael and Jonny, who will be a great support throughout the day, as well as helping with the long journey which totals 579 miles, broken down 463 miles of driving and 116 miles at sea.

Any donations, no matter how big or small will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks. Johnny.
