Building a New Urban World
"Behind every fact is a face. Behind every statistic is a story. Behind every catch phrase is a young person whose future will be lost if something is not done immediately to change his or her reality. And when it comes to young, African American men, the numbers are staggering and the reality is sobering."
I wrote this book as a small part of a large plan to break cycles of under-education and poverty among first generation college students.
Here is a brief summary of the book:
5 Proven Strategies on How to Pay for College" is an autobiographical success story of a young African American male with hope and a dream. The book reveals how author, Ethan Brisby used his faith to dig out of poverty and into spiritual, financial, and mental freedom through the use of higher education.
This recently published page-turner takes readers on a five part journey which begins at "FAFSA University". Brisby, a native of Bryan, TX shares how he began at a local community college and used Federal financial aid as a one-way ticket out of poverty. The next stop is "Decision Makers Drive" where the book introduces strategies to use for gaining access to donors and scholarship opportunities. This chapter also features 8 methods to use for getting a response to an e-mail.
The next stop on the Five Proven Strategies Journey is "Talent Leads to Money Avenue". Here Brisby shares with readers that doing what you love can get you closer to where you want to be. He shares a true story of how his love for journalism connected him with the Association of Black Journalists and eventually vital money for college tuition. The fourth stop on this exciting journey is "Balancing Act Blvd: Adding streams of income." Brisby, a Morehouse and Texas A&M alumnus reveals his relentless efforts that at times left him mesmerized with multiple internships, work study, and entrepreneurial efforts all in the name multiple streams of income.
The fifth and final stop in "5 Proven Strategies on How to Pay for College" is "Spirit of Truth Parkway." Brisby shares stories of how his faith helped him see past the adversity and defeat of circumstance and into visualizing the future he wanted for himself and his son. Brisby then leaves readers with a take home message that they may accomplish what they will, "It's up to you," he says.
This book is suitable for readers of all ages from middle school to senior citizens. It speaks to basic success principles that when applied are useful in professional, personal, and of course education endeavors. Brisby also travels the country sharing his success story and SHIFT Enterprise Academy personal development curriculum with urban audiences and faith groups.
