Jerry Robinson - Help for someone who wouldn't ask

I am writing this for my sister, Kim Robinson’s family who have recently been thrown a major curveball. If you know Jerry Robinson, curveball is just the right term, and we know he will knock this one out of the park.
D differentiated liposarcoma. What? No family should have to hear those words. Let alone, dig into what they really mean… Cancer. That is what it means. A rare and aggressive form of cancer. They have decided to go to MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, where they specialize in this rare cancer. They treat three cases a week, while other centers may treat three in a year. They say his odds of beating it are good, given 18 weeks of intensive chemotherapy and then surgery in the fall to remove the tumor that is causing severe muscle and nerve pain in his lower back.
When Kim and Jerry went to Texas last week they thought it would be a quick trip to devise a plan, but that would not be the case. They will need to stay in Texas until at least October or November after Jerry’s surgery. Jerry will be going to the cancer center every day for testing and treatment, wearing a backpack with a constant feed of medication. In the meantime, their daughters, Kaitlyn and Becca, are holding down the fort at home on summer break from college.
No one can plan for this. Jerry and Kim will need an apartment in Houston, transportation to and from a couple of different clinics for the chemo, airline tickets so the girls can at least come see their parents once or twice this summer before they go back to college. They will also use all their paid time off as teachers and lose their incomes for some period of time in the fall while Jerry recovers from surgery. Meanwhile, the costs at home don’t go away.
We’d like to start a campaign to take away the financial worries so the family can just concentrate on the treatment and healing road ahead. We did get good news that the cancer has not spread and they have found an apartment available in Houston that is only a mile from the treatment center. God is already answering our prayers as they take one step at a time through this new journey.
