Send Maddy Eberhard to World Rowing Championship

Hi my name is Maddy Eberhard, and this year I will be competing in Austria at the World Rowing Championships in the PR2 Women’s 1x, while representing the United States. I am hoping that you are able to take the time to read a little about me and consider making a donation to help offset the cost of the trip. The travel fees, hotel, U.S rowing fees, and equipment rental are not covered by U.S. Rowing for neither my coach nor me. The trip is completely self-funded, and with your help, I can compete against some of the strongest female athletes in the world, and work towards my goal of competing in the 2020 Paralympics. 

I began rowing in 2017 for the West Side Rowing Club in Buffalo, NY. My passion for this sport has grown ever since. Upon discovering this sport, I was unaware of the potential I could have. As the only para-athlete on my team of high school athletes, the sport was initially a way to stay in shape and try something new. However, I quickly became very passionate about my training and involvement in the sport. From there I worked extra hard each day to prove to myself that even with a disability, I am just as passionate as anyone else about rowing. I wanted to show that I would not allow my disability to stop me from competing in the sport that I love. My competitive nature proved to my coaches that I have what it takes to compete at an elite level. Staying focused and driven at each practice allowed me to be the athlete I am today. 

Over the years I have worked with my coaches, my club, and high school, Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart. They have helped guide me in the right direction and to begin competing against other para-athletes. We worked to find opportunities for me to compete, and ways for me to develop as an athlete. After attending a Para Identification Camp this year, I realized I wanted to work to make my dreams a reality. Making the U.S. Para-Rowing Team this year is an amazing honor, and I would like to dedicate my success to my coaches and all of my supporters throughout the years. I believe this is only the beginning of an amazing career, and a way for me to inspire other young para-athletes to chase after their dreams.
