On June 12th 2018, Just a few days after being told that he had pneumonia, Joe was found unresponsive. His wife had to perform CPR to revive him.
Once he arrived at the hospital they quickly discovered large amounts of fluid surrounding his heart as well as his lungs. His heart had stopped and he stopped breathing.
He had to have the fluid drained and a chest tube put in. He then spent several days in the ICU at Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was released today after spending most of the week in the hospital. Tons of test were done and the only explanation for what happened is that some sort of viral infection caused the fluid build up.
He will require ongoing follow up care as well as medication to bring down the inflammation surrounding his heart. This medication is not covered by insurance and cost $300 per week.
Also, As a result of this incident he is not only wracking up medical bills, he is out of work for the time being. So they could really use help covering not only the cost of medication but also regular expenses while he recovers. Any gift whether large or small is greatly appreciated!
