An “Academic Lynching” Legal Support

Many of you who genuinely care have asked what can you do to help? I believe that is an earnest question that deserves a real answer.
Those who really know me and those that know me well enough to proactively intuit me see my termination for what it is, a surprising, unfortunate and dubious situation unfolding within the context of one of America’s most unique movements, further precipitated by a rumor and my passionate response to it? Perhaps the university’s president was ashamed that throughout the process of his vote-of-no-confidence he tip-toed and whispered in response to students who insisted that he was inadequately performing, relative to my calling bullshit to any such allegation about my performance. Perhaps any idea of transparent courageous leadership in the face of social injustice was intimidating in it being something he may have been incapable of.
I am hoping you will lean into your instincts and truly have my back, with financial support/action that transcends words.
Ironically John Brown comes to mind for me. As you know that bad ass white abolitionist sacrificed his life and the lives of his family for a community of people he barely knew because it was the right thing to do. Some scholars suggest he lit the fuse on the Civil War. My situation is no where near as dire as all that. However, my situation is very real in its own way. Goliath (SUNY)is trying to bully David (me) because it commands the bully pulpit. Nonetheless this David is prepared to square off with no holds barred. Yes, I’m publicly calling the bluff of a major university (which for the record I initiated a lawsuit against two months before I was terminated).
What they found in their investigation was little-to-nothing, but enough to justify terminating me considering that I served at the pleasure of a president (with the legal right to fire me without much cause) acting in a panic to save himself.
The university’s Gender & Women’s Studies (and by association the Title IX office) working hand-in-hand with the GWS influenced Student Association—recognized how pathological the campus leadership was and leveraged it in their favor, making them all complicit in this not-so-well woven tale. That all of this could have occurred is almost unfathomable. So it would be inexplicable that they would celebrate it, right? Stay tuned, it gets more preposterous every day.
I need allies who see that, who can look beyond the hype. Anyone who knows my SUNY story and can’t see a Conspiracy isn’t looking. From Student Association leadership claiming My showing of a provocative film clip in one of my classes (to discuss the complexities of racial perspectives on sexual abuse, power and privilege) was shown to enhance the possibilities of sexual encounters for me with my students; to class smear flyers in bathrooms to slanderous comments in newspaper article’s feedback sections—including the repetition of specific occurrences with Me Too allegations from one campus to the next—the written thought in most statements against me reveals hatred for me and not because of anything inappropriate. It was never about me harassing or touching anyone. It was always about power, White privilege, and now in 2018 the misappropriation of a vital movement for their own ill-gotten gain. How dare JW a black man we are not comfortable with, be successful in a predominately White environment, when we struggle to sustain interest in anyone in our academic conversations about sexism. Oh, and he is also a predator? How dare JW fight against a movement that is taking down much bigger people. Who does he think he is?
Who am I? The not-so-easily intimidated Black male ally who recognizes this small fight I am having in the North country has bigger implications. Not too many people are situated to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with SUNY? Not many, because if you are guilty it would be a stupid-ass move. I’m not, and won’t be punked by their ability to reach here and there and find a few people with an axe to grind to spin something. See, they reach towards me because they don’t know me. If they did they would not have tried this. I’ve never been intimidated because I know myself.
I also believe if enough allies who know me and/or feel me get behind me we can make a profound game-changing statement
Help me stand up to SUNY. Your energy/contribution, preferably both, will be appreciated.
