Shake It Off For Relief is a community video-fundraiser project intended to bring about connection, community, self-expression, creativity, fun, engagement, and support during the Covid-19 global pandemic.
Shake It Off For Relief calls for the participation of all people from all parts of the world -- our project asks for any person of any age to submit a short clip of themselves (the video can range anywhere from a minimum of 10 seconds to a maximum of 1 minute) dancing to the song “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, and emailing that video to us at [email redacted]. With that video, participants will be featured in our montage dance video of people from all around the world who are currently quarantined at home due to the pandemic. In addition, we are asking for a voluntary donation of any amount (even as little as $1) for us to collect and forward to Direct Relief's Emergency Covid-19 Relief Fund.
The purpose of the Shake It Off For Relief dance montage video is to bring about fun, self-expression, positivity, and connection during these hard times. While people are stuck inside their homes, many of us are experiencing fear, grief, anxiety, worry, loneliness, hopelessness, and disappointment. When I came up with the idea for Shake It Off For Relief, I myself was wrapped up in this experience, and then it hit me -- I was in my room, dancing around to the song “Shake It Off” by Taylor Swift, and for the first time in what has felt like forever, I felt GOOD. I was fueled with an overwhelming sense of fun, positivity, and relief. I had to have replayed the song over 100 times, unwilling to let go of this feeling and absorbing everything it had to offer. I was ECSTATIC, and right then and there, I thought to myself, “I think everyone deserves the opportunity to feel this good, how can I make that happen?”
And just like that, I created Shake It Off For Relief. By participating in this project, everyone now has an opportunity to “shake off” these negative feelings we have all been experiencing, and feel as good as I did that night in my room.
Shake It Off For Relief creates connection and community during a time of isolation. In order to make this possible, we ask that each participant forwards the project to 10 other people, asking for them to participate as well. This gives people the opportunity to reach out to one another, whether it’s a best friend, family member, or someone they’ve lost touch with, and work on/participate in something together. Participating in our project by submitting a video also gives the opportunity to spark your creativity and self-expression, as we ask our participants to get creative with their video submissions in any way they wish to make the experience as fun as possible.
While the video-participation portion of Shake It Off For Relief has intangible results of uplifting our spirits during this crisis, our mission is to also generate physical, measurable results that have a strong impact on the level of community. This is where we are calling for YOU to take a stand for your community and donate to our fundraiser. 100% of all our donations will be forwarded to ‘Direct Relief’s Emergency Covid-19 Relief Fund’. Direct Relief works in the U.S. and internationally to equip doctors and nurses with life-saving medical resources to care for the world's most vulnerable people across all 50 states and in over 80 countries.
By donating to our fundraiser, you will be directly supporting Direct Relief as they are working in overdrive to get protective gear and critical care medications to as many health workers as possible, as quickly as possible. A global emergency callus for us to act globally in response. With this fundraiser, you can take part in our movement by taking a stand for community and support us in reaching our goal of $1,000.
