Support Derrick's Journey to Recovery

On Sunday October 27, 2024, Derrick was brutally attacked outside of the Galaxy Coney Island on Grand River and Schafer. This unfortunate attack caused facial fractures, a broken nose, nerve damage, brain and spinal injuries which left Derrick immobile. He lost full mobility of his arms, hands and legs. Derrick is being hospitalized and undergoing intensive physical and occupational therapy daily. Currently he needs “total assist” and around the clock care. Someone must feed, shower, dress, and even assist him with simple things like drinking water. The Neurologist says there is a long road ahead and he will need medical equipment when he transitions to come home. Such as: wheelchair, wheelchair ramps, lifts, bed and more. Due to this terrible incident, he is left in a condition where he is unable to care for himself and can no longer work and unfortunately, the insurance will not cover all his medical needs.
