Big Mike's Fight

To know Mike Truskoski is to love Mike Truskoski. This is shared by all of us - his friends, his coworkers, and most profoundly his family. Hannah and their two girls, Charlie and Willa, are the center of Mike's world and he is the center of theirs.

On Mike's birthday, December 10, 2024, he experienced a seizure at work prompting a fall from his seat. Coworkers were quick to attend to him and get him to the hospital where they stitched his lip and tended to other minor injuries. Upon further examination and testing to determine the cause of the seizure, an abnormal growth in the brain was detected. While the prognosis was the best they could have hoped for at that time - a 2cm (likely benign) tumor, the tone changed quickly when the surgeon delivered the news that not only was she certain that the tumor was malignant - but that she had narrowed it down to likely being melanoma or glioblastoma. Mike will have surgery today (12/12/24) to remove the tumor which we've been told is in an optimal location for removal, then send to pathology to determine treatment course and next steps. Pathology takes about two weeks, but could take longer with the holidays. The doctor does feel confident that when she removes the tumor, she will have a good idea of what type of tumor it is, but the wait for pathology confirmation will be long and looming over the holidays.

SO many of you have reached out asking what you can do. This is one thing you can help with. Donate. Health insurance will reset come January 1, prompting new deductibles, out of pockets, copays, medications, etc. Mike will be out of work and while his work has been the most supportive group that he could have asked for, costs will of course pile up. For any of you that know Hannah, it comes as no surprise that she will be steadfast by his side each and every step of the way. There will be costs for parking, commute, food, things for the girls, etc aside from the medical costs and more will accumulate that I'm sure we aren't thinking of.

I know that everyone will continue to ask 'what can I do?'. And the truth is, not much other than this. Support them. Love them. Donate. Pray... not just pray but storm the heavens and make yourself heard. Show up. Check in. Be okay if a response is delayed or doesn't come with the understanding that the energy needed for a response some days will be better directed toward Mike's healing.
