Medical Expenses for Chris

Donation protected
As most of you know, Chris was severely injured in the middle of a wrestling match on July 28, 2023 at a tournament. He was throw onto his neck, knocked unconscious for a few moments and woke up extremely disoriented, confused and in severe pain. Anyone who knows Chris, knows he doesn’t stop for pain he pushes through. This wasn’t that time.

After being evaluated from the athletic trainer at the tournament it was best that I took him in to be evaluated further. His vision was off, weakness in his extremities, still confused etc. I rushed him to Texas Health Alliance where they immediately rushed him back to be evaluated. They placed a C-Collar on him to stabilize his neck while we were waiting for imaging. Morphine wasn’t touching his pain, I knew then it was something more. I immediately texted my mom, his Nana, and told her to start a prayer chain we were going to need it. After his CT was complete we received news no parent wants to hear.

Chris has multiple fractures in his neck. “We will be transporting him to Harris Methodist to consult a Trauma, Spine and Neuro Surgeon.” They started his transfer paperwork and he was transported by ambulance. Once arriving to the trauma hospital it was like the scene out of a movie.

There was 12-15 people who rushed his room at once. Talking to him, changing him over, taking his singlet off, evaluating all while his dad and I stood back watching helplessly. Additional testing was performed of a CTA and MRI to confirm the fractures. Luckily those prayers worked and no surgery is required. There is however a long road to recovery. He will be in his neck brace for 6-12 weeks then physical therapy.

Hospital bills are already coming in. Time off work will have to happen to get him to and from appointments. Additional DME could be required. It’s stressful. It’s hard as a parent because we also have his brother's Senior year this year and a lot of other expenses too.

We are asking our community, friends and family to rally around Chris and donate if you are able to. Share with friends and family. We are very blessed that he wasn’t paralyzed and thank God everyday for that miracle itself.
