Supporting a veteran and his family

My name is Taya Kyle.

A wonderful, faithful, servant-minded couple adopted and raised two beautiful daughters. Last year, the daughters, aged 30 and 22, both experienced tragedy. The oldest was married, and the younger daughter was in a serious relationship. The couple had more love to give and began fostering a teen who is now 18.

Their older daughter recently died suddenly from a medical condition while her husband was trying to revive her. There was nothing they could have done to see it coming.

Their younger daughter moved out of state to give her relationship the best she could. Soon after moving, she gave birth to a beautiful newborn. They were so excited about it. The newborn was in bed with their younger daughter and died unexpectedly. As grief took hold, her relationship with the baby's father also ended.

She was far away from her family, devastated and alone. She uncharacteristically turned to a form of escape that resulted in unhealthy habits and behaviors.

As all of these tragedies and grief overwhelmed them, the daughter they were fostering turned 18. They wanted to continue loving her and providing her with a safe home. With the stress and deaths of her older sister and young nephew, their youngest daughter started to spiral. She threatened to kill herself and one of her teachers. They knew they could not provide her the help she needed and were working on making the gut-wrenching decision of finding her a healthier place to live where she could get the help she needed. Since she was 18, she was legally allowed to leave and sadly returned to her biological mother's home. This couple was broken-hearted and powerless to help her because of her age.

This sweet couple got their younger daughter home and worked to find her an in-patient treatment center. As you might imagine, these places are expensive, and their daughter does not have insurance. They pulled money out of their retirement account to pay for it. As you may know, law enforcement and the military are not the highest-paying jobs, and their retirement account was not overflowing.

World-renowned pastor Dr. Tony Evans spoke a powerful sermon based on Galatians 6:1-7 this Sunday. In his sermon, he reminded us we cannot lift the weight for someone else, but we can spot them and lift the burden enough so they can lift it. We are called to do it as we love one another.

I started this GoFundMe campaign for a phenomenal couple and family because they need it. I am keeping their names private because I know they work hard to serve others and aren't comfortable with being served. I also know they are tenderhearted, loving, humble, grateful people who will be touched by your generosity. They need support from people like you and me to know that life can be good. The husband was in the military and law enforcement and has mentored and ministered to people in the church and law enforcement. He has served without ever asking for anything in return. Over the past couple of decades, they have been close friends with some close friends of mine. We had the opportunity to meet recently. He was so open and wise even while in great pain. His love for his wife and powerlessness to help take away the grief of his family was heartbreaking. We prayed together. He left his mark on my life.

Will you join me in adding money to this GoFundMe Campaign so this couple sees there is still good in the world? I want them to know they don't always have to serve and pour out what they have physically, emotionally, and spiritually without replenishment. I want them to be served by all of us who understand what it is like to be in pain and how the generosity of others can make all the difference in finding our hope and healing again. Please join me in donating whatever you can.

God bless you.
