MND is a fatal neurological disease that affects and kills so many people around the world every day, with no known cure. Muscle weakness is the initial sign occurring in the majority of the patients. As the weakening and paralysis continues to spread to the muscles of the body the disease eventually affects swallowing, speech, chewing and breathing. When the breathing muscles become affected, ultimately the patient will need permanent ventilator support in order to survive.
Our beautiful mum has been receiving critical care and support at Avenue Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya since October 2019.
As the disease progressed it started affecting her speech, swallowing ability and difficulty breathing until she was admitted in October 2019. She is on peg feed, had a tracheostomy done and eventually on full time ventilator support though she is very alert and responsive.
Thanks to your generous donations from friends, family and well wishers, we have managed to pay a huge hospital bill incurred so far. The hospital has kindly discharged her with still around £23,000 to pay over 8 months.
UPDATE:
It's been over 2 months now since mum has been under critical home care and is settled adjusting to change.
We are grateful for the ongoing support we have received so far, but sorry we still have to appeal for more support
To help her survive, she is having round the clock support from a professional team which is costing her £2000 a month.
We still have part of the medical bill to settle and the hospital thankfully have been very understanding of the family's circumstances.
On Friday 21/8/2020 her ventilator broke down creating an emergency, with the current COVID situation, we managed to hire one that costs £9000 to purchase.
This is a never ending struggle so you can understand the families plight.
For mums sake, we appeal for more of your generosity and give whatever little you can even on a regular monthly contribution so we can keep taking care of our dear mum.
