Support Michael Greco's AML Fight
Donation protected
Towards the end of October, Michael began to experience shortness of breath frequently and overall wasn’t feeling like himself. He went to urgent care and it was assumed he was dealing with minor bronchitis. As a precaution, the doctor advised him to get bloodwork done. On November 7th he got a call from the doctor informing him that his hemoglobin, white blood cell, and platelet counts were drastically off and we rushed him to the ER. Later that day he was informed that there were leukemia cells found in his blood.
Michael was transferred to the University of Chicago hospital. After a biopsy, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) happens when the body makes too many immature white blood cells. These cells, called myeloid blasts, can't mature into normal white blood cells. Because AML develops and gets worse quickly, prompt treatment is very important.
Treatment of AML includes an induction phase of heavy chemotherapy to knock out the majority of cancer cells. Michael has been inpatient at the University of Chicago receiving an aggressive round of chemotherapy since his diagnosis. He will soon receive a second biopsy to determine what the next steps will entail. He will need to remain in the hospital for the next 2-3 weeks.
This diagnosis has been very shocking for Michael and our family. We know there are many people out there who are wanting to help Michael during this time, so this page was created to do so. The money raised here will go towards Michael’s inpatient medical bills and further medical bills as he continues his treatments.
Michael Greco is a 30 year old Illinois State graduate. He was raised in Evergreen Park and now lives in Oak Lawn. He was raised in the St. Bernadette Parish. We would love for the community to come together to show support during this time. Either through prayers or donations. All support is appreciated.
Thank you to everyone who has called, texted, reached out, prayed and shown their support during this time. We are very grateful for each and every one of you. Michael will fight this battle, but not alone. Thank you again.
