This is Landon, age 5.
Landon went in for a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, September 1st, 2015 because we had some concerns. The doctor saw him pretty briefly before saying we needed to take him to the E.R. to have a CT done.
We then took him to the E.R. at Texas Children's Hospital where they found a mass on his brain apx. 3 cm wide that is blocking off the drainage of cerebrospinal
fluid.
Things escalated the following evening when Landon was waking roughly every 30-60 seconds screaming in pain and Tylenol and Tylenol with Codeine really weren't doing anything for him.
He was given morphine a couple times throughout the night and was able to get some rest. By morning he was extremely sleepy, but after such a rough night we all wanted to give him some much needed sleep.
When they came to assess him, however, he was unresponsive. He would not speak, move, or do anything other than cry a little in response to pain. (They had to pinch him a little to see if he responded).
His legs and arms were stiff and he was grinding his teeth and drooling. To see our little man going through a seizure was absolutely terrifying.
He had surgery on Thursday to drain some of the fluid and will be getting a shunt placement within the next few days, so long as he is still stable.
He was placed in P-ICU due to him still not responding very well to his name and him not wanting to wake, as well as some more smaller seizures.
They have performed another CT and they said he looks good. No bleeding or anything terribly concerning. They just think he's going to take a little longer to wake fully and wanted him to be monitored as closely as possible.
Thankfully, we have moved from P-ICU back to the regular Neuro floor. He has a few more machines and a few more meds, but he is talking some and joking again.
As far as I know, the plan is to focus on this pressure (which is now normal), have him recover, place the shunt, wait for the biopsy of the tumor to come back, and then talk about what to do moving forward.
They think that surgery is not going to be a good idea and will most likely be discussing chemo and radiation options with us to shrink it. We also will be following up with lots of new doctors/specialists. That is a bit down the road though.
Our family is in need to help care for Landon .
The purpose of this GoFundMe Campaign is to raise funds for a reliable vehicle to get Landon to and from his countless doctor visits in the near future AND to secure housing for our family so that Landon has a home to return to once he is discharged.
Our family has been trying to get a foothold on finances and bills and have been unable to climb out of "The Hole" for over a year, no matter what steps were taken.
We are going through a devestating eviction that has already been finalized by the courts and the complex will not make any exceptions, or delays in the execution of their posession order.
The hearing was the day after he was admitted and although we were told they would extend the hearing after a social worker from the hospital faxed over proof of what was happening, no such action was taken. They simply carried on with the hearing without us and we were evicted by default judgement.
We are moving what we can into a storage unit shortly before they come in and take whatever they want. Our family dog, unfortunately, will have to be surrendered to the pound and most likely euthanized as she has special needs and is susceptible to seizures. We have no other choice though, and it is heartbreaking.
We are, essentially, homeless with a child in the hospital and desperate for any help we can get.
Landon has two brothers and one sister that are staying with their grandmother in Austin for the duration of his stay in the hospital. They are all happy, healthy and being well taken care of and for that we are both fortunate and grateful.
We are hoping to make our family whole again soon and appreciate any and all help getting there.
Love and thanks to you all <3
