Support for Curtis Jr.

2023 was a rough year for many families; our family is no exception. While many were preparing for and celebrating a happy new year, our family has been hoping for a miracle.

On December 28, 2023, Curtis Lewis Jr. was admitted to the hospital. He was diagnosed with a massive blood clot in his lungs, as well as multiple smaller ones. Despite this diagnosis, he expected he would be in the hospital for a couple of days and fully expected to come home soon. Unfortunately, this is not what happened.

Instead, he has suffered many setbacks, which resulted in his family being called in to say goodbye. In no uncertain terms, we were told that he was not expected to survive past Saturday, December 30, 2023. Members of his medical team were surprised when he made it until the late afternoon.

The goal is to transfer him to another facility that is better equipt to handle his complex condition, as the one where he initially sought care has mostly exhausted its capabilities for him.

A lot of information has been thrown at our family since Saturday (12/30/23). We have had our hearts destroyed by the news of his critical condition. We received hope when he met specific criteria for his transfer, to have it ripped away when his condition worsened yet again, stalling the transfer. Currently, we are cautiously hopeful. While he has met the criteria for his pending transfer, he is still in a critical state. While we hope for the best, we don't know what the future holds.

In the meantime, the family is stuck trying to manage. As we all recently saw with the New Year, time continues. Obligations still need to be met, and new expenses arise. We are requesting financial help while we navigate this time. Any funds raised will be used to cover bills and help ease the cost of travel and food for the family. We do not know exactly how much to ask for, as we do not know all the costs we will continue to incur.

As his family, we are asking for any support during this time. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers and can see them working as he has surpassed his medical team's predictions by 4 days, hopefully further.
