Save Hawaiian Corals and Whales

Donation protected
Coral reefs in Hawaii are under extreme stress due to climate change, rising sea levels, over fishing, farm chemicals and improper coastal development. Kauai coral reefs, whales and marine life are also under an additional stress caused by  military ongoing war testing at sea.

Marine bioigist, Terry Lilley has spent over 2000 hours under water in the last five years documenting a massive coral disease and die off of the reef eco-system. Mr. Lilley works with and shares important scientific information with the university of Hawaii, the USGS, NOAA, and Scripps Institute. Mr Lilley has  produced over 100 under water movies for use in schools all through out the Hawaiian islands educating students about our vanishing coral reefs.

In the last 5 years over 50% of the live corals in Kauai have died and one coral species is near full extinction. Mr. Lilleys goal is to have addition qualified marine bioligists helping him do his daily reef surveys and educational video production. Mr. Lilley would like to have some very sensitive under water monitoring equipment to test for chemicals, heavy metals, sonar, electrical discharge and bacterial testing.

If we are going to have a coral reef for our future generations to enjoy then we must start properly monitering the die off of our corals to find out what is killing them and hopefully to get the problem stopped.

Coral reefs in Hawaii bring in 100's of millions of dollars of revenue from tourism, The outer coral reefs protect the coastline homes and businesses from excessive erosion that can cause them to fall into the sea. Coral reefs are the home of more animal species than any eco system on  planet earth. Coral reefs house fish that have been the primary food source for Hawaiian people for over 1800 years.
With under water sonar detection equipment we can monitor the negative effects to our whales, dolphins, and sea turtles caused my the US military war games. With this data we can advise the military to alter to activities so they are not so destructive to our marine life.

We will post updated movies, photos and information on social media for everyone to view. When the proper studies are done this will give valuable information to the public, government and schools, so better decisions can be made to develop a sustainable coral reef eco system here in the Hawaiian islands.
