House Fire Victims

As most of you who are local to Saugerties know, a fire ripped through an apartment building this past Saturday, April 21 on Russell Street. My Facebook has been flooded daily with fundraising efforts being made to a family who tragically lost a family member in this fire. I am moved seeing a community come together for those in need. However, it came to my attention yesterday that a family who was also living in the building has been completely overlooked. It was made more clear after I posted on Facebook asking if anyone knew anything about them and to which most of the replies were referencing the other family. While I, absolutely, am not looking to take away from anyone I am hoping that we as a community could also come together for the Kahn Family.
According the local paper they are a family of 5, Mom, Dad and 3 children ranging is ages 3-10. The 3 and 9 year old were not injured and are staying with family locally. Unfortunately, the 10 year old and both parents “Substained extensive burns and are in critical but stable condition” at Westchester Medical. A neighbor was quoted as saying “The father actually went back inside to save his son”.
I do not know these people personally but know the Mom from Cahill school and the Saugerties Public library. I can’t begin to wrap my mind around what they are going through. Them and the other families effected.
If you can spare even one dollar or share this please let’s try to take some of the financial burden off this family. Not only have they lost all their belongings but they have physical and emotional injuries that may take years to heal and eventually medical bills will begin to pile.
Thank you,
