This page is for Fiona Marie Maye who tragically passed away on 07/29/2018 at the age of 27.
Fiona loved her family. She was loved by her family. She loved life although it was not an easy one.
Fiona’s struggles began when she was 2 years old. At a Christmas Party, Grandpa John noticed a speck in her eye and urged Mom and Dad to have it examined. The diagnosis was devastating - Retinoblastoma (cancer of the eye) and the treatment even more so – surgery to remove the eye. In utter shock and disbelief, Tim and Catherine raced tirelessly from one doctor to the next, searching for a miracle that wasn’t to be. It was their way of saying, “I'm scared too, but I love you and I'm here for you.” It was then the bell rang unbeknownst for Fiona, she had stepped into the octagon of life for the first of her many battles.
Fiona’s 8th birthday party was a celebration that marked a huge milestone - 5 years cancer-free. Bagpiper Vinny Casey marched around the backyard playing Irish music to be heard for blocks around. Fiona was a survivor, a fighter, and a true inspiration to us all.
Externally, Fiona dealt with bullying, anxiety and depression. Internally, she battled herself. She went through so many trials and tribulations yet seldom asked for help or a shoulder to cry on. To the contrary, she was always there for her family and friends as someone to talk to and put on a brave face to be modeled after.
“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage” -Lao Tzu
Fiona you shook the world and your spirit will be remembered forever.
