Scholarship Fund FAQ
What exactly are you doing here?
We're here to help raise money for seminarians in Uganda who are at risk of leaving seminary for lack of funds. The tuition cost is only $250 a semester, but Uganda is a very poor country and people don't have that kind of money. Most people make about $1 a day there. Seminarians work really hard and go to school for close to ten years before they are ordained as priests. These young men also need books, vestments and other items. So, just a little contribution, like just $5, can go a really long way.
Why sponsor grown men and not children?
Sponsoring a child in Africa is highly worthwhile and valuable. However, if you sponsor a child's education, sometimes in the next decade or two, your efforts will show in the life of that one child. When you sponsor a seminarian to become a priest, within the next few years, an entire village can be improved through the efforts of one priest. Priests in Uganda do more than minister to the spiritual needs of their flock. They also help with developing clean water and education for their villages. In fact, priests in Uganda are the best people possible for the job of improving the health and education of Uganda... and that includes a village of children.
Are you a non-profit?
No, I am just an ordinary individual raising money for seminarians in Uganda. My business, Carmel Heart Media, is an LLC, not a 501(c)3. However, all money received to the scholarship fund goes directly to the seminarians, or directly to the school if you prefer. You can receive a receipt for your contribution, of course!
How do you know you're not giving money to scam artists?
We are able to check the enrollment records of the seminaries. Also, the Adopt a Seminarian Program checks for valid enrollment and need and most referrals for scholarships come through that program.
Are there other options besides on-line donation to the scholarship fund?
Yes, there are several. You can call and make a donation over the phone (email for the phone number to call) or you can contact a seminarian directly through their Facebook page. You can also send a message to the Adopt a Seminarian Program if you'd like to find out other options.
Can I sponsor just one seminarian I choose?
Yes, you can! Look at their profiles on our blog and decide who you would most like to support. http://priestsforuganda.blogspot.com
What will you do after you reach your $1000 goal?
This will be an ongoing fund. After the $1000 goal is met, the fund will still continue to grow, with new goals for new students posted as we move along.

More Information:
Brilliant men choose to consecrate their lives to God,
but don't have the money to complete their education in order to serve Him. They come from very poor villages but have dedicated their life to advanced study and prayer, in order to help the people of Uganda, an area of our world most in need of pastoral care.
Once ordained, they will preach and provide sacraments to the people but many also plan to lead ministries to obtain clean water and provide education in their home communities. They will do the work traditionally done by missionaries from other countries- Help them serve their own communities instead.
Tuition is only $250 per semester but many students will have to drop out of seminary by the end of January because they do not have scholarships to continue.
Many seminarians have had their families sell all their property and their village has given all they had, and it was still not enough. All of these men have worked extremely hard just to stay in school- and all that hard work still isn't enough.
Once the funding goal is met, you will have helped four young men continue in seminary and not abandon their dream of becoming a priest.
Help us help them and you will help many more than them- You will help entire villages through one simple act- $250 tuition or whatever you can give.
This one donation produces both spiritual and corporal acts of mercy in abundance..
This is a beautiful way to start the new year- Help an entire village grow and prosper, materially and spiritually.
