Help us say goodbye to Árni

Dear Family, friends and strangers
This is a plea for help for my eldest sister, Camilla. She and her husband of nearly 20 years have lived in Iceland for a long time together, recently making their dream move to Spain. Her husband, Árni, has had numerous health problems due to a bad accident for years, which had only continued to get worse as time went on, and the continual cold in Iceland only made general day to day living more difficult for him. Making the move to Spain was something they had been talking about for years, to live in a warm place where he would finally feel better. They moved in the summer of last year. However in November he got the news: Terminal prostrate cancer. He had been in pain so long, and not wanting Camilla to worry, he kept the diagnosis from her, choosing to try and manage the pain from home instead of being hospitalized and put on a constant dose of morphine. Finally on Friday he shared the news with her, as the pain was too much for him to bear. On the following Sunday, the 13th of January dear Árni left this world, leaving his pain behind forever. The next day, Camilla found out that not only had she lost her husband, but that since moving to Spain, someone had cloned their card where they were keeping their life savings, taking large sums of money off daily, and she was now left with 10€ in the bank. She had been so busy taking care of him that she hadn’t even noticed. The police in Iceland are making an inquiry, but it could take a long time before they can refund her, and she currently can neither pay for food, her rent, or even pay to bury her husband in the most basic funeral they can offer her. She has lost everything. Her life’s savings are gone, and just a cremation with a wooden box will cost over €2000, and that’s not counting all the additional fees that always come up. She’s covered in paperwork at a time when she isn’t emotionally able to deal with it, and she needs any help you can give. If you can spare something, even a little bit, to help her out of this heartbreaking situation, it would make a huge difference. We are immeasurably grateful as a family for any help that you can give. We loved Árni like a brother, and he was a kind man with a big heart. If you can, share this post and help us to give him the final farewell that he deserves. Thank you.
