Friends, family, and wider community, I reach out today in a desperate plea!
My beloved 6-year-old nephew and Godson, Alex Hook was at recess on 9/10/21 with his first-grade classmates. During this time a landscaper practiced very poor judgement by deciding it was okay to mow the grass on the median located directly across from where the children were playing. While mowing, the landscaper ran over a piece of rebar which flew with a vengeance directly into the back of Alex’s head. He was flown by helicopter to Children’s Hospital of Milwaukee where he underwent emergency brain surgery. He sustained a fractured skull, brain bleeding and a piece of his bone had to be removed from his brain.
As of this writing he remains in a medically induced coma. Once the neurosurgeon takes him out of the medically induced state, the team will determine the severity of his brain damage. We continue to pray for a speedy and complete recovery, however, it’s very likely Alex will need extensive rehabilitation in the weeks, months and possibly years to come.
My brother-in-law Kirbey (Navy Vet) is gainfully employed; however, his insurance is not sufficient to cover all of the medical costs associated with this tragedy. My sister Caryn is currently working on a contract basis and therefore only gets paid when she works.
In closing, I am asking for YOUR financial support so Caryn and Kirbey can support Nathan, their 10-year-old with special needs, pay for Alex's medical and rehab expenses not covered by insurance, and help supplement Caryn's loss of income during this time so she can take care of Alex and Nathan.
Thank you and may God bless all who donate, 6-year-old Alex and family during their long journey to recovery!
