60 mile SUP: Street Friends, Helping the Homeless
Donation protected
I’m lucky to be reaching the age of 50 this coming August and have decided it’s a great excuse to totally push myself out of my comfort zone by diving into an epic unforgettable challenge.
In preparation for this I’ve regained my fitness, am in the process of learning a new skill (stand up paddle boarding), will be taking myself way out of my comfort zone by wild camping during the challenge (anyone that knows me, knows I’m not a camper and I like my warm showers and cosy bed). And, probably the scariest part, I’m sharing my story publicly to try to raise some money for an amazing local charity that sits very close to my heart.
Street Friends Helping the homeless Aberdeen, is a volunteer run, outreach service that tirelessly supports people that are homeless and living on the streets of Aberdeen.
After a traumatic accident 7 years ago, a near death experience, multiple operations with life changing injuries and all the challenges that recovery throws at you, I may well have been forced into homeless situation myself. Thank fully due to an amazing support network and employer, this wasn't the case.
I'm hoping this fundraising journey not only raises some very much needed funds for this amazing outreach service, I would like to believe that others who haven’t experienced homelessness might also reflect on their own vulnerabilities they may have faced through life and be grateful that homelessness hasn’t been a reality or an option for them. People living on the streets are often judged rather than empathised with we have no true understanding of the experiences and trauma that people living on the streets carry with them. I would like this fundraiser to raise some much needed cash but also raise awareness of the amazing work, and maybe even help recruit some new volunteers. Street Friends Helping the Homeless Aberdeen
Every penny that goes to this outreach service goes into caring for people that are homeless. I would really love people’s donations to boost the resources and support provided by the amazing volunteers who are providing hot meals; comfort and kind chats for those who need a listening ear; distributing emergency supplies and great advice and support to help homeless people find the solutions they need to rebuild and fulfil their lives. This isn't a Monday to Friday role either, they are providing support 7 days a week, 365 days a year,
