Meet Rylan everyone!
For those of you that know the Kroekers, you have met this amazing little boy , whos heart is filled with gold, who's smile lights up the room and who
has the most positive and cheerful personality ever!
He is 3.5yrs old , and he has spent the last few years overcoming numerous obstacles in his life. Although you wouldn't know it, this lil guy has struggled with Epilepsy since he was 10 months old. It started with a few seizures here and there, before Ashley & Jamie noticed other medical issues arising. Although this lil guy will never let you know his struggles , as he is always smiling and happy. Rylan has had to overcome many obstacles such as surgeries, MRI's, EEG's , speech therapy, physiotherapy, rehabilitation and many hospital visits, exams and hospital stays. He has re-current seizures weekly , sometimes daily without any explanation. Jamie & Ashley recently found out after a year of waiting for approval for special genetic testing , that Rylan had a rare genetic mutation in his 7th chromosone. There is less then 100 reported cases in the world with this .
Today, Rylan undergoes numerous rehabilitation exercisises to work on his walking, goes to a speech therapist to work on his ability to talk and takes 2 different kinds of medications 3 x daily for his epilepsy. While some of Rylans treatments are covered under extended medical, his speech therapy and rehabilitation costs are not. Ashley and Jamie are two full time working parents, as well Rylan also has a lil sister Kinley who is 1.5 years old . These two amazing parents work hard daily to ensure the most amazing care for Rylan and to give him the very best chance at a happy and fullfilling childhood.
This past Monday evening, Rylan was getting ready for bedtime when he experienced a Grand Mal Seizure followed by cluster seizures. He was rushed to BCCH, intubated and in the ICU for 2 days . This was the most serious his seizures have been, and one of the scariest moments in both Jamie & Ashley's lives. Although Rylan has recently been transfered out of the ICU, it is unknown what caused this aggressive seizure and when they will be able to come home. Both Jamie & Ashley are by his bedside .
So, with this incrediable boys story and journey , we have decided to set up a "go fund me " account to help with medical costs ( therapy, medications, missed work funds ) . In the new year, the Kroekers are considering a option for a very serious surgery for the treatment of Rylans seizures, however this will mean taking a full month off work to be at his side and possible risks.
We are hoping to raise funds to help Jamie & Ashley , during this difficult time and decision. To help relieve some of the pressure they have with the exspenses and to offer a small cushion should they move forward with the surgery in the spring.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about this lil guy and for your support !!!
