The Tipton Family
Donation protected
we are setting this up on behalf for the Tipton family. The details of what happened to their youngest son are below:
Alexander ingested/aspirated lamp oil this morning at church. After calling poison control I made the decision to take him directly to the hospital. He quickly became lethargic and was struggling to breathe in between coughing fits. Once there, the decision was quickly made to transport him to Jacksonville. The Brunswick hospital doesn't have much beyond typical triage for adults and kids are a whole 'nother ball game. He got a ride in a helicopter after making sure he was stable and ready to go.
We are in Jacksonville now and haven't seen him yet. He is stable and will be receiving a PIC line and an arterial line to fast track anything if/when needed. There is a possibility he may need ECMO as they expect things to get worse before they get better. We've been down that road before unfortunately.
Key points for prayer: his left lung is struggling, it's essentially collapsed. This is going to get worse before it gets better as oil and water don't mix. All the people who are working on him and with us to get him better. Finances, after what he went through with the NICU bot so long ago, it's a bit of a struggle to not fret about finances.
Praises: there have been some significant God winks today. Some completely random, like WAY out for the blue. There are some really good people here. Our family is seriously loved and cared for.
Midday Friday Update:
Alexander's fever has stuck around and it is now past 24 hours since things happened so now we have a concern for infection. All labs have been taken and now we wait to see if something grows. That's where we are, wait and see.
We are definitely going to be here a while.
Good things, a few things are being taken off to decrease any risks for further infection. Like additional ivs and his catheter for example. They are switching his NG tube out for a feeding tube so he will be getting something in his belly which I'm sure he will appreciate.
We are waiting to talk to social services to get into the Ronald McDonald house here and we do have to chat with CPS as any accidental ingestion does.
All his other vitals are steady and stable. He loves when the nurses and other care givers talk to him as they do things. He has and does respond by nodding his head yes and will grunt "uh huh". I played a few songs from the Mickey Mouse Funhouse soundtrack and he loved it. Granted his heartrate went up with his excitement so it didn't last long but he enjoyed it while it lasted.
