Powell Family Support
While coaching his first year of football at SMU,
Jamal Powell unexpectedly experienced
debilitating symptoms landing him in the emergency room.
Initially attributed to stress, months in the
hospital, a team of specialists and a final diagnosis of GBS (Gillian-Barre Syndrome) found Jamal struggling to regain full motor function.
As he worked to recover and return home, he faced another devastating diagnosis, colon cancer. After two surgeries to remove the cancer, Jamal again returned home to be with his family and to begin healing.
Another setback occurred as Jamal was experiencing excruciating pain in his hip. He was admitted to the hospital for a successful hip surgery, only to discover he had an infection in his bones.
The team of doctors is currently working towards eliminating the infection, so he can begin chemo for the returned cancer.
The Powell family has gone through devastating circumstances that have changed their life.
To help them overcome medical debt and focus on treatment, his friends set up a GoFundMe to raise $200,000.
Jamal, Rachel, and their children Jaden, Ellison and William are incredibly grateful for each person who has reached out in their journey and been a source of strength to them.
As a friend and fellow coaches wife, I am setting this fundraiser up on behalf of the Powell family and all giving will go directly to the Powell family.
