Nearly a year ago, my enstranged and active duty Navy husband started drawing all the money out of the joint accounts, while I scrambled to keep a roof over my head and his credit decent by contacting creditors, to include the mortgage company, to make arrangements for payment. Pay would drop and be gone within just a few days, sometimes within only hours, and caused overdrafts to build up. In the midst of all this, I was fired without warning from my position of 2.5 years and was forced to scramble for whatever I could find for income; I was able to get onboard with Instacart within just a few weeks and only suffered minimal income loss, though my savings were wiped out.
Then, the demands for me to pay rent to him started, on a house I also own and have taken care of by myself for 5 years, improving the property value and keeping it livable. I maxed out my only credit card on home repairs, food, gas, and even utilities a few times, due to his refusal to provide financial support, and he is now determined to force me to sign a quitclaim on the deed so he can luxuriate while not caring about what methods he used to get there.
Legally, I am entitled to certain things after a marriage of this length dissolves. However, I need a lawyer familiar with military law in order to be able to fight for my rights. I am working as much as I possibly can, despite multiple chronic illnesses and severe anxiety and depression. I have dozens of applications out for more stable employment, and I have canceled all non-essential services and made arrangements with my bank to help me recover a bit, but I need a retainer for the lawyer I've found to get the ball rolling. This lawyer accepts smaller payments after Ive paid the retainer and gives me several years to pay it off following court. I have plenty of proof of the ab*se, neglect, abandonment, and infidelity, but I need your help to make the $2500 retainer happen.
The remaining $1500 will go towards my car. It is 10 years old and Ive known its needed new belts and brakes since November, and its overdue for a state inspection which I cannot pass without repairs. I currently rely on it to deliver for Instacart 6-7 days per week as my main source of income.
I know times are hard for everyone. A post-pandemic world is a difficult situation to be in, so if you can't help financially (and every little bit helps!), please share far and wide, send your good vibes, prayers, and/or uplifting/silly statements.
I am grateful that you took the time to read this #LoveDoes
