Michele's Battle

Aloha on behalf of Michele, I am here to share her story.

Aloha, I am Michele Naehu. I am a mother of 4 children, the sole provider for my family, and was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

It started with a lump on my right breast that I first noticed in February. I assumed it could be from heavy lifting since I just started my new job as a Postal Worker which required me to lift many boxes. I was so excited about my job, I didn't give the lump much thought.

As time passed, the lump began to grow and became more noticeable; my energy levels were low, I was always tired, and I wasn't able to spend much time with my kids. April 2023 - I finally built up enough courage to have the lump checked at the local Women's Health Center. After a 15 minute exam the midwife told me it was a swollen lymph node and treatment was a warm compress for the swelling. She informed me that I did not have other symptoms suggestive of cancer, was considered low risk since there was no familial history, and the recommendation was a routine mammogram at age 40. I asked if I should follow up with the specialty Women's Health Center, but the midwife did not think it was necessary and I was so relieved.

July 2023 - I'm back at the same local Women's Health Center, but see a different midwife for birth control refill. I mention the lump and explain how it had grown and was more visible with a burning pain. The midwife was quick to agree with my concern and scheduled the relevant tests and follow up appointments.

August 2023 - I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Over the next 8 weeks, I did every possible test to ensure all areas were thoroughly assessed.

September 29th - I had scheduled surgery to remove the cancerous lump from my right breast. During surgery, the doctors found the cancer had spread to the lymph nodes under my right arm pit. As a result, I ended up having a double mastectomy as well as removal of the affected lymph nodes under my right arm pit.

I am currently out of work for recovery from surgery and recently started chemotherapy treatments. As the sole provider for my family, I'm overwhelmed and devastated.
Cancer has shook me to the core. It has encouraged a deeper relationship with my older children, built stronger bonds with my siblings, restored connections with family, tested friendships, and emphasized my true support system. I am grateful for everyone who has been by my side from day one and humbly ask for donations to ease any financial burdens I may incur.

Mahalo.

Please keep me in your thoughts and Prayers as we are believing for complete healing, Any donation big or small are greatly appreciated during this time.
