Tekoa Trestle /John Wayne Trail
Donation protected
The John Wayne Pioneer Trail is one of longest trails in America and it is under threat. Last year two powerful members of the WA state legislature conspired to take a 135 mile section of this public parks land and give it away to nearby property owners. This was done in secret. They were stopped however by a typo in their proviso.
The WA legislature will decide the trail's fate early in 2017.
The State Parks Dept is seeking a grant from the legislature through the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program(WWRP) in the amount of $1,200,000 to repair the Tekoa Trestle. This will allow pedestrians, bike riders and horse riders continuous access on the trail through our small town of Tekoa (pop 843) on this beautiful but neglected trestle.
We have been challenged to demonstrate some level of financial commitment in order to strengthen the Parks' Dept grant request.
A restoration project of this type will go a long way to stop continued efforts to shut the trail down.
Your donation to our fund will help restore the Tekoa Trestle and save the John Wayne Pioneer Trail.
