There is a very Big problem! There is a learning crisis. Despite increased enrolments, an estimated 250 million children still cannot read, write or count well. (UNICEF , 2013). In the 3 northern regions of Ghana, this is worse, children are simply not learning enough literacy skills to equipped for the future.
Solution
The funky ReadWrite clinic is an innovative literacy mentorship program for children with learning difficulties and poor literacy skills from low-income communities in Northern Ghana, the first of its kind! .
Now in its 6th edition!, the funky readwrite is looking to improve access and quailty to more children with learning difficulties and poor reading/ writing skills .
How?
The funky readwrite designs and uses local play activities - children learn best when the play and have fun! We use local games, songs
, creative arts & writing - to stimulate creativity of children.
learning curriculum - a dedicated learning tool tailored for the specific needs of each child
Technology; we have partnered with 2 amazing local organisations to provide robotics kits and a learning software application .
community approach- provides a platform for the teachers, parents , local mentors and volunteers of children to form a network of support .
mentorship -a safe platform for children to get inspired by local achievers from their own communities.
Duration
Each year , we select 30-40 kids for a 4-5 months , the program is run as an afterschool program .

Why is our program unique?
children with learning difficulties and poor literacy skills often feel embarrassed, shy and bullied ....our literacy program does not just improve reading and writing skills it helps children build self -esteem and confident by providing them with a safe platform to express their creativity.
 Why help us!?
We kickstart the 5th edition of the funky read-write clinic in January 2019 but unfortunately, we have limited resources to start . Without your generous support, we will have to disappoint our children next year. Remember our target goal of £1, 000 is for the whole year! Yes for £1,000 per year we are able to provide t.shirts, snacks, reading/writing materials, a safe space, arts/crafts and hold a 'red carpet' graduation ceremony for the kids to showcase their work to their community
