HOLIDAY GIFTS FOR LOCAL YOUTH DURING COVID-19
Tax deductible
We need your help! The Coronavirus Pandemic has affected how we will provide holiday food and gift assistance this year. During the winter holidays, Herndon-Reston (FISH) provides caring support to disadvantaged families. This assistance hopefully reduces stress, lessens financial pressures, and promotes holiday cheer for those who are facing financial difficulties. Typically, FISH provides non-perishable food, a grocery card for fresh food, toys for kids, and gift cards for teens. BUT for the 2020 holidays we are having to change our program due to the pandemic.
Here’s how you can help: This year, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and social distancing, we will not be able to provide the in-person distribution of non-perishable food or toys. Instead we plan to provide each family referred to us with $50-$75 in grocery gift cards and a $25 Target gift card for each child (18 years old and under). We will depend on neighbors, like you, to help us fund this effort.
Please help Herndon-Reston FISH prepare for the busy holiday season by giving back to those less fortunate. Last year, FISH assisted about 250 households, over 900 people, including more than 400 children! We would like to assist as many people, if not more for the 2020 holidays because many are still without jobs or incomes and struggling because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
You can easily help now by sponsoring $25 gift cards for children and teens. This is a great opportunity for you to make a student smile with your kindness and generous spirits. Just imagine the smile on their faces. As little as a $100 donation will provide four children with one or two gifts for the holidays.
About FISH: Herndon-Reston FISH provides Friendly Instant Sympathetic Help to local residents in short-term crises. Each year, FISH helps thousands of people in all demographics but predominantly those from the very low-income levels. FISH responds to requests for rent to stop evictions, utilities to stop disconnections, medical prescriptions to stay healthy, and other short-term emergency needs. Our objective is to respond immediately to prevent a crisis from becoming a destabilizing, escalating and costly problem, like homelessness. In the fiscal year just ended, FISH programs assisted 2,360 people. Almost $250,000 was paid to stop human crises that would have cost much more if not addressed quickly.
Herndon-Reston FISH, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that has assisted local residents since 1969. Please visit FISH at www.HerndonRestonFISH.org for details on all our programs. And follow us on Facebook
