Help Send My Dad Home

Donation protected

My father, Roy Jacobs Jr., was a passionate writer whose love for storytelling was matched only by his enthusiasm for cooking, watching movies, and listening to music.

Throughout his life, he not only shared his written words with the world but also showcased his creativity through sewing garments. Known for his strength, humor, and deep affection, my dad was a loving father who inspired those around him with his wit and warmth.

I’m only just finding out about my dad’s cancer diagnosis on August 19th, 2024, four days after his lung biopsy. I spent time with my dad daily and watched how he rapidly declined. My heart sank because the only thing I could literally do was watch and pray for healing, strength, and acceptance. Healing and strength for my dad and strength and acceptance for myself.

My dad had developed metastatic lung cancer, and I witnessed firsthand how unforgiving cancer can be, especially if not caught in time. The cancer care team at Touro Infirmary informed me that my dad’s body wasn’t strong enough to withstand chemotherapy, and the only thing they could do for him was make him comfortable and provide him with oxygen.

On his last day, the nurse came and took his vital signs; his blood pressure read 63/15, and that’s when I knew his time was coming to an end. I then left the room, and the nurses comforted me, for I was never ready for what was about to come. The nurses encouraged me to return to my dad’s bedside, and that’s when I began singing, “Daddy, I love you!” I told my dad that I loved him and that he did good, and once I shared that with him, his heart stopped. The nurse came in to check him, turned off his oxygen, and called the doctor, who came and pronounced that he transitioned at 6:20 pm. My dad fought hard until his last day, September 2, 2024, taking his last breath at 5:45 pm.

Help us spread the word by sharing this announcement with others. Your thoughts, prayers, and support mean a lot to us during this challenging time. We deeply appreciate any help you can provide as we honor his legacy and celebrate his life. Thank you for your kindness and support.

The funds will be used to cremate him and have a private memorial for family and close friends.
