Alesha Cook Legacy Fundraiser
Thank you all for being here. I am the niece, and organizer of whom this fundraiser supports, and I am asking for your help to honor and
celebrate the late Alesha Renee Cook and her family.
As you may know, funeral costs and legal responsibilities following a
loved ones sudden passing, serve to make the grieving process even
more difficult than it naturally is. Any proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to payment of the funeral home, and support the various
postmortem costs her family is facing.
Alesha touched many lives during the time she shared with us. She was a devoted daughter, loving sister, caring mother and grandmother. On
February 24th, Alesha was unfortunately diagnosed with lung cancer, which then metastasized into various other cancers throughout her
body. Upon hearing the news of her mother's diagnosis, Alesha's eldest child, and only daughter Schenia, went into early labor the next day,
giving birth to Alesha's newest grandchild Nileena. While her daughter was in the hospital in labor, Alesha also reported to the hospital with a fighting spirit, to begin her treatments.
While undergoing treatment, Alesha was unable to receive any visitors for the entire month of March due to COVID-19, making her treatment feel all the more isolating. She was released from her first round of
radiation and chemotherapy on March 31st, to begin recovery at home, however less than 2 weeks later, with her health still worsening, she
was brought back in and kept for closer monitoring, to remain there.
Her body was deemed "unable to thrive" after heavy doses of radiation,
and at her request Alesha was released to hospice care on the evening of April 15th, to spend her remaining days with those she loved most.
Alesha passed away after individual and socially distant visits from her
large and loving family on the evening of April 16th. She is survived by
her parents, Quinn and Wanda Cook, her sisters Madia Hart, and
Tawnia Cook, her children Schenia and Mitchell Fincher, grandchildren Jedariun Cook and Nileena Lundquist, and devoted boyfriend and caregiver Gene Smetana.
With our current global scenario limiting public gatherings, tragically,
Alesha's life will not receive the celebration or funeral she is so
deserving of. Her family however, is still facing expensive postmortem
costs, all while being unable to earn their usual income, which only adds to the uncertainty and pain surrounding these events.
We are graciously asking for any help that you may be able to provide,
to support the legacy of Alesha. We understand that everyone is
stretched to their limits during these times, and we are most grateful
for any amount provided. If you knew Alesha during her life, then you
know that she was a proud and humble woman, who would be eternally grateful for any help provided to her family, all while trying to refuse
your donations.
Thank you in advance for anything, absolutely anything you can
provide in support of Alesha Renee Cook and her surviving family.
