Help us get back into an apartment

hey :) my name is court (court0o0 on tiktok). I’m an unhoused recovering addict trying to regain housing with my husband. we lost housing due to abrupt loss of income a little over a year ago and spent months living on the streets of nyc before getting into a couples shelter. i am trying to raise money so that we can put down a deposit and pay our first months rent at a new apartment. we currently live in a shelter with food comparable to that which is served in jails and only a microwave to cook with. we have no access to a refrigerator so mostly eat cold food paid for with ebt if we can’t stomach the food they are serving here. anyone can lose housing, neither myself or my husband ever thought it would happen to us but it did, and it happened fast. all we want is to get out of this shelter room which is infested with cockroaches, mice, and rats no matter how clean we keep it because the entire building is infested. were forced to sleep with all of the lights turned on every night but still if we wake up in the middle of the night we see cockroaches everywhere and often mice or rats scurrying around the room.

Please help us get back into proper housing, because DHS isn’t doing anything to help us, they profit more when we’re housed in the shelter.
