By now, many of you have heard of the tragic accident and loss, caused by a drunk driver, on Friday night (18th). Lee and his family are completely heart- broken, grieving the loss of their fun-loving, kind and always compassionate Hayden Hooper, age 18. Hayden's brother, Grayson (age 12), was also struck by the drunk driver and sustained a traumatic brain injury. We are thankful that Grayson is recovering. However, Grayson required brain surgery and will require much therapy for an extended time. Grayson, Josh and Jackson, were present and witnessed the horrific accident. Nellie, mother of Hayden, Grayson and Nolen, arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. Needless to say, the accident has taken a financial and emotional toll on the family.
We still cannot believe the many difficult realities, the family must face, when the boys were simply taking a walk. As they so often do, Josh, Jackson, Grayson, and Hayden walked to the clubhouse/playground to reminisce on middle school memories, which happens to be only two blocks away. On the walk back from the clubhouse, a drunk driver crashed into the side of another car and swerved towards the boys who were on the sidewalk. After running over the curb, Jackson and Josh were able to dodge the vehicle, but unfortunately Hayden and Grayson Hooper were struck by the car.
The family is overwhelmed with the love, support, and prayers that they have received. They covet your prayers and are comforted knowing Hayden is in the arms of our Heavenly Father. Even though he is currently no longer with us, Hayden leaves us a legacy to live life to the fullest and love unconditionally.
“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those that are crushed in spirt” Psalm 34:18
