Help Avery Conquer Cancer

Dear Family and Friends,We wanted to update you about our sweet Avery’s diagnosis and her current and future treatments. Prior to Avery’s diagnosis Monika and Cisco noticed that she was increasingly sleepy and was surprisingly slow to recover from a cold. They took Avery to the doctor and she got blood tests done on Oct 30th and November 1st. After the doctors got the results they urged the family to take Avery immediately to the Phoenix Children’s hospital. The doctors had met them there and told Monika and Cisco that Avery has B-Cell Leukemia, which includes being in her bone marrow. They were complete devastated, especially just after Lillie’s scare of possible melanoma. The doctors put together a treatment plan so Avery can overcome this cancer. There is no telling how long she has been suffering from this cancer, but the good news is the treatment team is very hopeful she will beat it. On the day she was first diagnosed the team started treating the Leukemia with aggressive chemo, which meant Avery was in the hospital for a week receiving chemo daily. They put a port in her so chemo treatments will be easier to give. Monika and Cisco were able to take Avery home to finish her journey of fighting this cancer. She has to take 3 chemo pills daily. She bravely has already conquered her fear, learning to swallow the big pills. Saturday and Sunday she only has to take 1 pill to prevent her from getting pneumonia . Avery has to go to the hospital twice a week to get drip chemo. The chemo has made her extremely sick, periods of constantly throwing up and consistent pain from both the chemo and the cancer. Her hair is beginning to come out in chunks. Avery will have to continue this vigorous treatment for 6-8 months. After that she will get chemo once a month for 2.5 years. In the near future She will be getting a spinal tap to make certain the cancer hasn’t gone into her spine. Avery now has high blood pressure and that has been going on for a while so she has an appointment with the kidney doctors to check if any damage is present in her kidneys. As you all know this has been a hard hit to the family seeing their daughter, sister, niece, cousin, granddaughter and friend suffer in this way. Monika and Cisco are doing their very best to stay positive and strong for their baby girl and family. They need our continues prayers, words of encouragement, visits and phone calls. Due to Avery’s extensive treatment they are traveling back and forth to doctors and the hospital almost daily. Avery also needs special products for her treatment. The family can also use some funding if you are willing and able. This cancer is 90% treatable as long as Avery doesn’t get any infections. If you would like to visit the family please make sure you and your kids are not sick. If you are it could be very dangerous for Avery since her body cannot fight off infections. Due to chemo her immune system is essentially non existent right now.Prayer request this week: That the treatment routine becomes easier for Avery and that she gets no infections. Also, that Cisco is able to return to work that is closer and not such long hours.Thank you for all your love and support!
