Twoonies to Twenties…All for Trent

Twoonies to Twenties…All for Trent

Nothing can keep Trent from smiling when with his two daughters, Holly (age 7) and Mia (age 4), not even when battling for his life.

The battle

As many of you are aware, a very special person and my cousin - Trent Wittish, at the age of 39, has been in the fight of his life since December 2014. After being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, which is a rare form, he has endured several rounds of chemotherapy, and throughout, has remained an inspiration to us all with his ongoing optimism, courage and bravery.

For Trent to even have a chance of overcoming his battle, it is essential for him to have a stem cell transplant (more commonly known as a bone marrow transplant). Without this transplant, Trent has less than a 5% survival rate.

Fortunately, Trent's brother, Tracy, can provide the necessary bone marrow to help save his brothers life.

Above and beyond for a brother - what it takes to make it possible

Yes, it can be said that it is an easy decision to become a donor and try to save a brothers life, and that it is the purest form of a genuinely selfless act. However, when faced with reality, it is also a decision that is accompanied with a large financial impact.

Becoming Trent’s donor involves: an unpaid leave of absence from work (approximately 3 weeks), a flight to Australia, and accommodations while there.

Following the transplant, Tracy will return to Kingston, and Trent's mother, Sheila, will be travelling to Australia to care for Trent once he has been released from Westmead Hospital.

It is important to note that the Leukemia Foundation will reimburse the airfare and accommodations for Tracy after the fact. However, the unpaid leave of absence from work, as well as Sheila’s airfare and accommodations are the sole responsibility of the family.

The Twoonies to Twenties Campaign – how you can help

Worrying about where the money is going to come from is the last thing anyone needs to think about when trying to save a life. That is the very purpose of this campaign – helping to ease the financial strain on Trent’s family, and helping them instead to re-focus their energy on what is truly important.

Many individuals know Trent’s story, but being over 15,000 km away, just don’t know how best to help. Here is how….

Whether it’s twoonies, twenties or anything else, your donation will go directly to Trent and his family to help alleviate the financial burden this terrible disease will impart.

If you're unable to donate, please know that your prayer's have been, and will continue to be, greatly appreciated.

With this transplant, Trent still has an uphill battle, as there is a possibility that his body will reject the marrow but it is his only chance. Your heartfelt support is welcomed.
