Help Fagan Family Farms rebuild!
Fagan Family Farms was decimated during the last week of erratic weather here in Central Texas. We lost the entire field of vegetables (except for the leeks), and took heavy losses on our heard of Barbado sheep. Sustained sub-freezing temperatures, heavy freezing precipitation and extended power outages all contributed to these losses.
Although farming is very difficult, by nature, losses of this magnitude are unprecedented. With sales at a halt for the next 4 to 5 weeks, rebuilding will be nearly impossible. There is a very short window of time to plant here in Central Texas. Crops that are planted too late will be crushed by the heat in May and will, ultimately, not be profitable. Although Covid has been causing many agricultural supply chain issues, short term finance is probably the greatest challenge we currently face.
As farmers, we are typically very resourceful, and adept at overcoming challenges. However, this latest challenge is a real, “kick in the teeth.” Consider donating, if you have extra. Otherwise, take care of yourself, and squeeze your loved ones. We’re all gonna get through this.
