Clay's Journey on Caring Bridge

If you are reading this, Clay or Colleen have probably affected you in some way. If you know Clay or have been lucky enough to spend significant time around him, you know the kind-hearted, selfless person that he is. He is one of those special few that walk into your life and change it from the minute he shakes your hand or says hello. Through his career in the Navy, he has dedicated his life to the service of others. He is a son, husband and friend to many.

Below is a quick snap shot of what he fought and overcame in a little over two weeks:

On Christmas Day Clay woke up sick with what he thought was a migraine. The migrame came and went over the next week but never subsided entirely. By New Years Eve, with the pain intensifiying, he went into the Navy urgent care. Doctors there believed it was a migraine and treated it accordingly. By Sunday, January 3, the "migraine" had gotten so painful that he and Colleen went back to urgent care. After several hours and medications that had no impact a CT was ordered. The doctor came back 2 hours later with a report that there was a large lesion on Clay's brain. They were immediately sent to the local Army hospital for the night and then to Harborview Medical Center where he could meet with neurosurgeons who specialize in brain tumors.  At Harborview Clay underwent a 7 hour surgery that successfully removed 90-95% of the tumor. After nearly 2 weeks in the neuro ICU, Clay and Colleen are now home awaiting a plan on chemo and radiation to knock out this malignant brain tumor.

Now the good news, Clay's doctors at Harborview were absolutely AMAZED by his post-op recovery and Colleen’s strength through all of it.

It is because of servicemen like Clay, who selflessly  sacrifice everything, that we are able to live as we do.  Let us now stand behind Clay and Colleen with our support and prayers as he begins the next battle against this disease.
We feel that the following verse best describes Clay.
"Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.  Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the insterst of others." Philippians 2:3-4
