Therapeutic Horticulture Internship
Donation protected
As some of you may know, I am currently in school studying Therapeutic Horticulture. Winter term is in full swing and by March I will be starting my 480-hour internship. For some background, there are currently zero registered Horticulture Therapists in the state of Idaho, and to my knowledge, this will be the first internship of its kind here in the state. Considering that there are no established internships for Therapeutic Horticulture in Idaho, I will be creating, designing, and implementing this entire internship from the ground up. I am currently in the process of solidifying a location, and in the meantime, I hope to gather some community support. High levels of community support will not only help to legitimize this internship, but will help to fund the project as well.
I truly believe in the therapeutic and healing power of gardening and caring for plants. The Biophilia Hypothesis suggests humans have an innate desire to connect with the natural world. As our world progresses and becomes more reliant on technology, I hope to restore the value of people/plant relationships and create an atmosphere conducive to healing. This is the heart of horticulture therapy.
This internship is but a beginning. As I grasp at all my possible resources, I am reaching out to you and the community of Boise for support. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions. I appreciate you all so much and your support for this project is truly a blessing. Let’s bring Therapeutic Horticulture to our beautiful City of Trees!
