Hello my name is Jamie and I’m the proud mum of a beautiful, intelligent and sensitive young man named Joel.
Joel is autistic, as well as many other things that make him an incredible mr. He struggles with school mainly and there is a 3 year waiting list for assessment and diagnosis through the NHS.
My son is in his last 2 years of primary and so it is crucial I get him an EHCP (early health care plan) this plan will follow him from primary to secondary but because of the timing he is unlikely to receive the right amount of support to help him transition.
His entire life I have fought for him to be seen by professional bodies, he was recently assessed and I was told “although Joel is physically 9 years old he has the mental capacity of a 5 year old child and is struggling to complete assessment at this stage. We will need to revisit in the new year” so they will revisit when they are ready to do so again, whether he will comply or not is difficult to foresee. Any parent of a SEN (special educational needs) child will tell you that the path is long, that every day tasks are difficult and strenuous, that we fight for them and their rights every day. That their mental health is delicate and that we do our upmost to make them feel supported and loved.
I need to raise these funds for my son so he can get what all children deserve and that’s equal opportunity to thrive in an educational setting. Any other funds raised outside of the private diagnosis cost will be given to the local charity named Special stars who support children and young adults with disabilities and is very close to my heart.
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for visiting my page and even if it’s £1 it’s £1 closer to the support my Joel needs.
