Queer Photo Exhibition - Fundraiser

I am delighted to announce my new film photography show, “Now & Forever, Interpersonally Queer” which launches at “All My Friends” bar (Meath Street, Dublin) on Friday 9th December. Free entry! Live music from Sammy Copley! And others! 7-10pm! I have poured so much of myself into this project, as have others, and I cannot wait to share it. All queers and friends are welcome!

With the crazy rise in film and printing costs, I require funds to host the show as I cannot self-fund it alone. And I need your help. Any donation of any size or simply circulating this post / gofundme will help immensely. I would be forever grateful as I require these funds to primarily print the exhibition (approx 1500-1600 euro) and hidden/minor expenses to bring it to life.

Here is a breakdown of all expenses which the Go Fund Me aims to cover:

-Printing - approx 1,500-1600 euro (Final Quote from Inspirational Arts Dublin Printing for 11 prints - A0 and A1 sizing)

-General Supply Expenses - approx 100 euros for - flyer printing, A4 printing costs for large and small blurbs for each photo and description, delivery and transport fees, supplies to hang pictures such as balancing beam, fish wire etc. and any other hidden expenses

-Remaining amount, if there is an over-balance, will be going towards transaction fees for Go Fund Me while any other additional amount which exceeds the target fund will be donated to Irish LGBT+ charities

What is the context of “Now & Forever, Interpersonally Queer” ?

Queer or not, we all feel like the centre of our own universes. As we all live our lives, we inevitably become sub-plots or recurring characters in other’s universes. Accordingly, in the context of this queer photography exhibition, the interactions within the queer community become overlapped, slowly connecting, tie by tie.

You suddenly become best friends with an ex-partner’s housemate, you date a girl who also dated the girl you ghosted last year, etc. The list goes on, the ties extend. And us queers, we all discover, these pathways between each other are only few degrees separation from one another. Such highly interpersonal and parasocial communities tend to exist purely within marginalised circles. But why?

Society often rejects queer individuals which in turn, encourages us to find comfort in our queer relationships as the particles of our community who are also rejected collectively accept and nurture queerness. “Now & Forever, Interpersonally Queer” attempts to display the quality and strength of these interpersonal ties. Some are so powerful; our bonds with other queers make us feel more accepted in our lives than ever before. Accordingly, the notion of our “chosen queer family” which has existed for decades, attempts to deconstruct our perception of what a “family unit” can be. This photography project aims to take these heteronormative structures and queer them. And present them for what they are: beautiful, joyful, messy, euphoric, chaotic, but significantly life-changing.
