PLEASE HELP ME GET MY DAD HOME

Donation protected
My dad is 75 and he loves sailing. He dreamed of owning a Schooner since he was a boy. One was up for sale in St Helena, more than 5000 miles from the Uk. He fell in love with the boat and planned the trip of a life time. Using all of his and his wife's savings and after selling some belongings, off they went to buy the boat and sail it back to Greece, where it would be kept.

My brother and another skipper and his wife went along for the journey. They set sail from St Helena and it soon became apparent that the boat had been severly neglected. The gear box broke and the anchor snapped. They kept sailing to Ascension Island where the skipper and his wife abandonded the trip due to fears the boat wasn't safe.

My dad used his savings to repair the boat and they set off sailing to Brazil. The propeller fell off!! The anchor snapped again! Rope from sails snapped. It rained and it rained inside the boat, it leaked everywhere. Every week new things would break on the boat. The boat takes on water, too!

Weeks later they arrive in Brazil. Unable to motor into the harbour in the dark, they stop on a sandbank. 3am they wake up as the boat tips on its side completely, pots smashing everywhere. They had to be rescued off the sandbank. My dads lovely wife was so scared for her life, she couldn't continue the journey and made the difficult decision to leave my dad and fly home.

My dad and my brother coninued sailing for weeks, till they arrived in Grenada, where they are now. My dad wants to leave the boat anchored in the mangroves and come home. He is not able to leave the boat in the water until some repairs have been done to make it safe. The boat is made of steel and needs about £2000 worth of welding to be water tight. The boat is out of the water and the weekly fees for the mariner are more than my dads pension. He has used up all his contigency money and savings. He has borrowed a few hundered pouds here and there off friends and family to repair what he can on the boat. A new propella costs £3500. The costs of daily living in Grenada are higher than in the Uk because so much is imported.

My dad is 75 and just wanted to have one last big adventure. He took a big risk and it has turned into a disaster. He is heartbroken, depressed and desperately lonely out there. He just wants to come home and be with his wife.

Please help me raise funds to get the basic repairs done on the boat so he can leave it in the magroves, pay the mariner fees and finally come home. Myself, my siblings, his gradchildren, his wife and his friends miss him dearly and we are worried about him. We just want him home.
