The rise of HIV/AIDS in the LGBT community is something I am deeply concerned with. Having volunteered with numerous HIV/AIDS organizations for the past decade, I know firsthand how important places like Resource Center Dallas are in providing medical treatment, food, shelter, and counseling to those affected by this horrible disease. While modern medicine has turned HIV/AIDS into a manageable illness, medicine can run up to $3,000 a month. Those without adequate health insurance or access to government assistance programs are often shut out from the treatment they need to survive. And many of those who can afford the medicine face discrimination by their families, friends, and potential partners or employers. Resource Center Dallas empowers the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities and all people affected by HIV through improving health and wellness, strengthening families and communities and providing transformative education and advocacy.
Because of my involvement with DIVA (Dallas Independent Volleyball Association), I have been blessed with an amazing opportunity to help raise money for Resource Center Dallas. On May 4th, 2014 from 8:00pm-10:00pm at The Roundup Saloon, the annual Miss DIVA competition will begin. Several of my volleyball friends and I will be dressing up in drag to compete for the coveted title of MISS DIVA 2014. I, Jeffrey Tomlinson, plan to take that crown! Most important, however, is to raise $5,000 to support the transformative work of Resource Center Dallas. I would greatly appreciate your help in meeting my ambitious goal. Every donation comes with FREE admission to the MISS DIVA competition! For more information about Resource Center Dallas, check out: www.rcdallas.org
