Medical Education for Lycender
Donation protected
In
August 2013 I traveled to Ranquitte, Haiti to work with Peacework Medical
Projects. While in Ranquitte I worked in a medical clinic for 10 days. It was
here that I met Lycender Chery. Lycender was my medical interpreter while in
the clinic. Lycender and I became great friends over those 10 days and I got to
learn about what an amazing person he is. Lycender is 18 years old and grew up
in Cap-Haitien, Haiti. Lycender lives with his mother and 2 brothers and they
are supported in part by his Uncle. Lycender's dream is to attend medical
school in Haiti and then to continue to work in Haiti to provide medical care for
his people. Even though he had no idea how he would afford medical school, Lycender
has been working very hard this past year to reach his dream. Last month
Lycender attended an interview at the University of Notre Dame d'Haiti in
Port-Au-Prince and was accepted!
I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their dreams. In countries like Haiti however, pursuing your dreams is far too often out of reach. I would like to make Lycender's dream a reality. He is an extraordinary person and I truly believe that he will be an asset to the medical field.
I am reaching out to others who personally know Lycender and also to my family and friends who have heard about my work in Haiti with Peacework. I am hoping that together we can raise the funds to support Lycender's education. I have pledged a set amount for each of the 7 years of his schooling. Medical school tuition at University of Notre Dame d'Haiti is $3571.42 per year. This is a lot less than U.S. medical school, but is still an unattainable amount of money for most Haitian families. Any funds raised above that amount will be used for books, supplies, or saved for the following year's tuition.
I hope that you will all consider donating to Lycender's future.

Thanks everyone for your support.
Peace and Love.
