Dad’s Cancer Journey

My name is Shari, daughter of Alan Jamie.

Alan is a much loved father of Zair, Kyra, myself and husband of Carley.

On the 15th February 2023 Alan was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic clear cell renal cell carcinoma (left kidney) and a Ring enhancing lesion in left posterior parietal lobe (brain).

Unfortunately in New Zealand there is no funding available for the treatment provided to treat dads cancer at this stage. Dad is currently in stage 1 of his treatment that is a course of 4 total infusions, over 12 weeks (one infusion every 3 weeks).

With myself and Zair living in Sydney, Australia we can not be there in person to support Dad therefore we have decided together we will be shaving our own hair off to help pay for some of Dads treatment at $26,000 each infusion. With our hair to be donated.

All proceeds will be deposited directly to Alan and Carley’s bank account to pay for treatment.

We would like to say a special thank you to the team at Little Tokyo for their efforts to make us feel so comfortable yesterday. Dad was on FaceTime to us for the whole shave!

We have been totally overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and kindness thus far from near and afar, in person and via messages/phone calls/social media. The donation received are truly appreciated so so much!

Dad had his second treatment postponed due to coming down with the flu and spending another night in hospital but he is better now and the treatment has taken place. The treatments so far are looking to be effective and the size of the tumour on his brain has halved in size!
