Anybody who has ever met Jessica Mahone knows that she is one of the strongest people they will ever meet. Her personality, drive, endurance, resilience, and faith have always been inspirational.
Unfortunately, she is now facing the biggest fight of her life. On Friday, February 21, 2020 the unthinkable happened. Jessica and the light of her life, her 9-year old son Quest were hit by a drunk driver. Unbelievably, Quest did not sustain any injuries in the accident. However, Jessica suffered a spinal cord injury to her C-3, C-4 & C-5 vertebrae, which are part of the cervical spinal column that controls the central nervous system, which affects breathing, chest, arms & legs. Although it is miracle that Jessica is alive, she is paralyzed from her neck down.
This life-altering injury will effect Jessica and her entire family forever, especially Quest, who was always by Jessica’s side as they lived life as an inseparable duo. Much is still unknown in the aftermath of the accident, but spinal cord injuries are always significant and life changing. The one thing we do know is that medical expenses for Jessica in the long term will soon seem insurmountable for the family.
Jessica is a single mother to Quest, an amazing daughter and sister, an incredible friend and loved by so many. No one deserves to go through what she's going through. This page is being set up with the hope that, as her community, we can help alleviate some of the financial burden to Jessica’s family. There are many challenges ahead that Jessica will face with healing, extensive occupational therapy, and coming to terms with her new normal.
Jessica is an extremely strong person who has always been a fighter and we know will fight her hardest to get her life back, whatever that entails. The journey will be long, but we know she will get there with her fighting spirit. Together, we can try to take some of the pressure off of her and the family during this time.
The Christopher Reeve Foundation estimates that living with a spinal cord injury costs $518K in the first year alone. This fundraiser will help Jessica get the best long-term care possible and eventually help her get access to healing and resources that will ensure she maintains the best quality of life possible under these difficult circumstances. It will also assist in Quest's future expenses.
Her family is still in the wake of this devastating tragedy and it is difficult to imagine what the future holds, but we know that Jessica will never cease to be the brilliant, beautiful and vivacious woman we all know and love. Thank you so very much for any donation large or small. All donations will go directly to Jessica’s family, through her parents Greg & Debbie.
Whether or not you’re able to make a donation, please consider sharing this fundraiser outward within your community at hand, and please share with us a story below on how you got to know and love Jessica!
Lastly, please pray for Jessica as she is in God's hands now "...with God all things are possible" Matthew 19:26
