Firstly, let me say that this is a really difficult thing for me to do as I hate asking for help, let alone money, but I've reached a point where I realise I can't do this alone. Some of my friends will be surprised to learn how much this issue affects me because I come across as a confident person, but those who know me well will know that I've struggled with mental health issues, specifically around body image and self esteem for a long time. I won't go into too much detail but this has resulted in my needing medication, which in turn caused its own issues and ultimately led to hospitalisation. I feel so self-conscious on a daily basis that I wear men's t-shirts to hide my shape, I can't look at my own body and hate other people seeing it. I experience chronic pain constantly, and working hard as I do as a HCA for the NHS, this hinders my ability to do my job. I worry that, as I get older, my back, neck and shoulders won't be able to cope with the constant strain they are under. I struggle to get bras that fit me, and when I do, they cost a fortune and cause me even more pain, with the wires causing angry welts and bruising on my body and the straps causing dents in my shoulders due to the weight they are bearing. My dream is to be able to wear a soft, comfortable, crop top type bra. Unfortunately the NHS consider this type of major surgery a "cosmetic" procedure and won't give funding for it, so, despite my best efforts and the considerable distress caused by having to attend consultations, have photos and measurements taken, and despite the fact the surgeon was 100% in agreement, I find myself having to go private, undergo further distress and humiliation and facing medical bills of £7000+, which I simply cannot afford. I work as hard as I can, I take extra shifts when I can, but it's still only just enough to pay for my essential outgoings now that I've had to leave the family home due to Covid.
